SORSEF gives students a venue to develop important critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, teamwork and
personal management skills, which are essential in order to thrive in today’s technological society. SORSEF is open
to students from over 100 middle and high schools in our 13-county region (Screven, Bulloch, Candler, Effingham, Toombs,
Tattnall, Evans, Bryan, Chatham, Liberty, Long, Jenkins and Emanuel).
SORSEF is one of 21 Regional Fairs in Georgia that take place at the end of the year. The top 15% of SORSEF winners
will be moving on to the Georgia Science Engineering Fair and possibly on to the International Science and Engineering Fair.
SORSEF is affiliated with the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), the world’s largest international
pre-college science competition, annually provides a forum for more than 1,500 high school students from over 50 countries
to showcase their independent research. The Intel ISEF is the premiere science competition in the world exclusively for
students in grades 9–12.
We are expecting over 200 science projects this year, which will be judged by over 100 local business professionals, engineers
and faculty from our area colleges and universities.
Awards are presented to the top category winners and overall top projects. In addition to SORSEF awards, local and international
organizations donate Special Awards to students who excel in specific areas of research.
